One arrest made in Berkeley Co. baby tossing case

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell has confirmed that one person has been arrested for the the kidnapping of a four-month-old.

That baby was later found abandoned on the side of a road in Berkeley County fortunately unharmed.

Rondell Johnson, 26, of Charleston is now charged with kidnapping, burglary, unlawful neglect of a child, and assault and battery.

Ravenell stated that the North Charleston Police Department along with his office conducted an extensive investigation into locating Washington.

Washington and 6 other unknown individuals reportedly entered a home on Catamount Road one week ago, kidnapping the 4-month-old baby.

Investigators say one of the gunmen struck a 52-year-old woman in the head with a gun while she was protecting a child. The 4-month-old baby was found a short time later in Berkeley County.

Ravenell stated that, “We will not stop looking for the misfits who entered this home, physically and mentally abusing a family, and removing a helpless child from her caregivers. Our investigation won’t stop until all the persons have answered to their charges.”
