BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–As part of the district’s ongoing laser-like focus on school safety, the Berkeley County School District has unveiled a new tip line designed to help stop school crises before they happen.

The 1-855-OK-SAY-IT Tip Line is an anonymous, toll-free service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. It provides a safe environment to share information about serious incidents in and around Berkeley County public schools.

“At the beginning of each school year, every school in the district shares its bullying prevention and response procedures with students and parents,” stated Tim Knight, the district’s Safety Officer. “Specific plans vary from school to school according to the each community’s unique needs. The OK-SAY-IT Tip Line complements these efforts while allowing students and partners to break the silence and report bullying and other potentially dangerous situations without fear of retaliation.”

The district launched the line in early March 2014. Students, parents, and community partners are encouraged to report situations involving bullying, harassment, guns or other weapons, incidents or threats of violence, vandalism, drug or alcohol abuse, or other criminal activity.

When a call is placed, a recorded voice message prompts the caller to leave a message. The tip line allows users to submit tips anonymously though they may leave contact information if they wish. All tips are shared with the appropriate site or district administrator—or in an emergency situation, directly to law enforcement—for quick and appropriate responses.
