MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–Berkeley County may have plantations, parks, and an abbey, but it was lacking its very own mobile hot dog stand–that is, until Tarcha Miracle Simmons started Miracle’s Tasty Express this spring.

A native of the Long Ridge community in Moncks Corner, Simmons says she got the idea for starting a food cart after she saw several in the North Charleston area.

She noticed that there weren’t any carts specializing in New York-style hot dogs.

The road to Miracle’s Tasty Express was a long one.

“A ton of work has gone into putting this business together,” Simmons said. “From getting the cart approved by DHEC, obtaining a commissary, suppliers, property permissions, advertisements and licenses, it has been an exhausting process, but well worth it in the end.”

The idea for Miracle’s Tasty Express came about in September 2013; Simmons’ goal was to have the cart open for business by March 2014. She barely missed that goal when she began serving up hot dogs from the cart on April 14, 2014.

Miracle’s Tasty Express is more than hot dogs: Simmons also offers drinks, pickled eggs, pickled sausages, pickles, and vinegar pig feet.

“We are some country folks!” Simmons said.

No matter what each customer chooses, Simmons promises that the difference with her products is in the taste and freshness.

“We don’t just have regular buns; we have fresh deli buns that catches the steam from the inside of the cart while the links are steaming in beef flavored water,” stated Simmons. “We also have a tasty chili recipe that has everyone talking about and wanting the recipe!”

She promises an excellent lunch experience for all of her customers.

“Our primary goal is the satisfaction of our customers–we have many of them spoiled! We want to show them how much we appreciate their business because without them there would be no us.”

Simmons and her mobile hot dog stand rotate locations throughout the week. Her weekly schedule is as follows: the Iqor call center on Mondays, the Miller-Motte College on Tuesdays, the Dial America call center on Wednesdays, a new company in Summerville on Thursdays, and in front of the Bath and Body Shop in Moncks Corner on Fridays. During the weekdays, the cart is open 11-4; the cart is currently closed on the weekends.

Miracle’s Tasty Express has big plans for the future. Simmons is currently organizing a second cart that will operate in the Charleston area.
