BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.—A Cross man is behind bars in connection with a deadly traffic collision that occurred Tuesday night.
According to Trooper Hannah Wimberly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Terry Walter Erdman, 32, of Cross was arrested and booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center Thursday evening.
Records show he was booked into the Hill Finklea Detention Center for leaving the scene of an accident. The same day he was also charged with assault and battery, malicious injury to animals/personal property and criminal domestic violence.
Wimberly stated that Erdman was taken into custody after a state trooper stopped a minivan that appeared to have been in a recent accident and matched evidence from the scene in Cross. The driver of the vehicle happened to be Erdman’s girlfriend who told the officer where he could be found.
According to Berkeley Co. Coroner Bill Salisbury, Peggy Ann Cain, 59, of Cross was found lying on the side of Trojan Road in Cross.
She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Erdman is expected to go through bond court sometime today.
