AAA offers safe place for trick-or-treaters in the carolinas

trick or treatersWith Halloween being one of the most dangerous nights of the year for pedestrians, AAA Carolinas is bringing safe trick-or-treating to your neighborhood. AAA Superstores will be transformed into a fun, safe environment for families to enjoy.

On Halloween from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., all AAA Superstores in the Carolinas will hold a special trick-or-treat event for families and kids.

All stores will be decorated, employees will be in costume, and families can bring in their children to receive candy, reflective Halloween bags, glow sticks and more.

“This is just another way AAA is showing our commitment in providing, value, safety and peace of mind to the communities we serve,” said David Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolinas. “We want to provide a fun and safe atmosphere for families on Halloween night.”

In an effort to keep the roads safer this Halloween, AAA suggests a few easy tips for motorists.

  • Watch out for children in the street: Excited trick-or-treaters may not pay attention to traffic and cross mid-block or between parked cars.
  • Slow down: According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, a pedestrian is more than twice as likely to be seriously injured if they are hit by a car traveling at 35 mph compared to 25 mph.
  • Avoid shortcuts through neighborhoods: Avoid cutting through residential streets where trick-or-treaters are likely to be present.
  • Drive sober: Alcohol-impaired drivers make up one-third of all motor vehicle deaths. Designate a sober driver if you plan to drink.

“Parents can also help keep their trick-or-treaters safe by planning routes for walking and making sure their children are in costumes with reflective material,” said Tiffany Wright, president of the AAA Carolinas Foundation for Traffic Safety. “Remind your children never to cross the street mid-block or between parked cars.”

As part of the Halloween celebration at AAA Superstores, there will be gifts and prize giveaways.
