MONCKS CORNER, S.C.Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson announced Thursday that a Berkeley County jury convicted Jason Edward Kinloch of murder, armed robbery and criminal conspiracy.

The jury reached their verdict Wednesday evening. Circuit Court Judge W. Jeffrey Young sentenced Kinloch to 35 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

The prosecution presented evidence that on the evening of September 9, 2012 Jason Kinloch, along with 3 co-defendants, planned to rob Robert Lamar Moultrie of Conway.

The robbery took place at a residence on Charity Church Road in the Huger area of Berkeley County. Jason Kinloch took part in the robbery by holding a shotgun and demanding Mr. Moultrie “give it up.”

According to prosecutors, Kinloch’s co-defendant, Patrick Kinloch, used a .40 caliber pistol in firing the fatal shot which struck Mr. Moultrie in the chest.

Moultrie’s body and SUV were found three days later in the Francis Marion National Forest.

Patrick Kinloch entered a guilty plea to murder and armed robbery on September 29, 2014. He received a 30 year prison sentence from Judge Roger Young.

Assistant Solicitors Matthew R. Ozment and E. Mason West prosecuted Mr. Jason Kinloch on behalf of the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

James Falk of Charleston represented Kinloch.

“Detectives James Riser and Bobby Shuler of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office did a great job in this case,” said Ozment. “They were thorough and built a strong case against these defendants.”

The remaining defendants, Christopher Tiller and Joshua Pruitt, are awaiting trial.
