16 stunning images from Berkeley County’s only ‘living nativity’

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–For the twelfth year in a row, hundreds of people showed up to view First Christian Church’s “Living Nativity” located on Highway 52 in Moncks Corner. For two days only, December 12th and December 13th, drivers got to see the Biblical account of Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection. Below are some of the many images taken from the two day event.

1. Decree from Caesar Augustus (Luke2:1-3). Caesar Augustus decreed a census to be taken throughout the Roman Empire shortly before Jesus was born.

2. Magi Traveling to See Jesus (Matthew 2:7-9). Far away in the East lived astronomers who studied the stars. They were seeking the One whose birth had been prophesied–the One who would be King of the Jews.

3. Angel Appears to Mary (Luke 1:26-28). In a region called Judea, a girl in the town of Nazareth named Mary was engaged to a young man named Joseph. Before they were to be married, an angel named Gabriel appeared to her and told her she would bear a Messiah or “Christ,” the promised Savior of the world.

4. Angel Appears to Joseph (Matthew 1:20-24). Joseph is visited in a dream by an angel who confirms that the child Mary carries is indeed Jesus, the Christ. He will also be known as Immanuel-“God with us.”

5. Mary’s Visit to Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-:45). Mary pays a visit to her cousin, Elizabeth. Elizabeth had been unable to bear children for years, and now in her older years is pregnant with the child who will grow to be John the Baptist. He is the prophet who would one day help prepare the way for Christ.

6. The Shepherds and the Angels (Luke 2:8-14). Joseph and Mary returned to Bethlehem…

…shepherds in fields nearby were surrounded by angels who came with “good news of great joy.”

…Bethlehem was usually a sleepy shepherding village and was about five miles South of Jerusalem, the capital of Judea…

8. The Inn of Bethlehem (Luke 2:7). Due to the census, the small town of Bethlehem was crowded and the inn was full. Joseph and Mary bedded down in the stables for the night, were Baby Jesus was born.

9. At the Manger (Luke 2:6-7, 16-20). Jesus, the Christ, Messiah, King of the Jews, Immanuel, was born on the earth in the borrowed stall of a stable. He was welcomed to the world, not by holy priests or powerful leaders, but by nervous parents and simple shepherds. Magi were on the way to worship Him while the world God and His promise to send a Savior.

10. The Cross and the Empty Tomb (Matthew 28: 1-8; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; John 20: 1-8). Jesus came for the purpose of defeating sin and death and redeeming this world. The manger was His first step to the Cross.

11. The empty tomb proclaims that “It is finished” and that Jesus Christ is Lord.

12. The Risen Lord (Matthew 28:16-20; Mark 16:19-20; Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-11). Jesus’ miraculous birth was not the end, nor was it the beginning of the end.
