HANAHAN, S.C.—A former Hanahan firefighter and paramedic pled guilty to assault and battery as well as criminal sexual conduct with a 14-year-old girl on Thursday.

A judge then sentenced 31-year-old Justin Shayne Rider of Ladson to one year on the assault and battery charge and his 15 year sentence for the criminal sexual conduct charge was suspended to five years probation.

This means Rider will spend 12 months behind bars before being heavily monitored after his release.

He was given credit for having already served 68 days at the Berkeley Co. Detention Center.

According to court documents, Rider began having sex with his young victim at a home in Goose Creek in 2013.

The victim says they had sex three times between January and February of that year. Eventually, the victim’s family reported the incident to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

Rider is married with children.

He was initially out of jail on a $60,000 bond.
