BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Today, Marty Housand, a veteran law enforcement officer and Republican candidate for Berkeley County Sheriff announced that he is proposing body cameras for all Berkeley County law enforcement.

“Most Republican voters want leaders with solutions. That’s why I propose that all of Berkeley Sherriff’s officers on patrol begin to wear body cameras.  These cameras will encourage criminals to think twice about committing crimes and protect our officers already doing a good job.  This should be a no brainer,” he said.

Republican candidate Marty Housand proposed to take $10,000 of his own salary, once he is elected Berkeley Sheriff, to begin to pay for these body cameras.

Housand added,  “This campaign for a cleaner more effective Sheriff’s office has never been about the money, it is about coming up with solutions voters can count on.”

“Too often there can be vastly different versions of the same crime scene. This initiative would help good officers defend themselves and provide a clearer picture of the crime scene,” Housand said.
