If you are unable attend, volunteers encourage the public to reach out to another rescue or your local equine community and lend a hand any day during the month of April.

“You could assist with feedings, help with grooming, clean a stall or two, make a donation, sponsor a horse or perhaps adopt. Every bit that we give collectively adds up to substantial impacts in our community,” stated Tracey Sawyer, president of H.O.P.E Acres Rescue.

This nationwide competition is for equine rescues and sanctuaries to raise awareness about the lifesaving work they do year-round to care for at-risk horses in their community who have often been abused or neglected.

Horses have been central to the ASPCA’s work since its founding 149 years ago, when Henry Bergh stopped a cart driver from beating his horse, resulting in the first successful arrest for the mistreatment of a horse on April 26, 1866.

“The ASPCA Help A Horse Day contest is a great opportunity for us to open our doors to the public, invite them to meet us, learn about what we do and have done and to encourage them to get involved.  It further provides a means for the community to personally connect with our mission,”  Sawyer said. “They will meet some of our rescues, hear their stories and in turn share within our community the ever present need to assess our laws, protocol and dire need to address abuse and neglect starting right here in the Lowcountry.  We look forward to seeing the community and local and state representatives at our new location on April 25th.”

  • We have offered our assistance to numerous County Animal Control Offices throughout the state of SC! Assisting in near 40 rescues/surrenders, placing near almost twenty in forever homes with the assistance of over 200 volunteers in five years!
  • April 25th is a family friendly event full of children and adult activities, raffles and live music. We encourage the community to bring chairs and picnic on the grounds for lunch.  We are also excited to have members of our local 4-H chapter to join our festivities.
  • Molly, who arrived last October, very emaciated, has been adopted by a wonderful Non-Profit Group in North Carolina where she will assist in the therapy of children who are in emotional distress. They will learn from Molly how new beginnings are possible, with love and nourishment even those who feel or are burdened with their past can find Hope in a fresh start!  We couldn’t be more delighted that Molly’s story will touch so many young hurting lives. At Hope Reins of Raleigh, Molly is now renewed, healthy, happy, whole and loved.  This is a wonderful example of our community coming full circle to help each other!
