BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Board of Education has planned receptions Wednesday, April 29; Thursday, April 30; and Friday, May 1 to allow employees, community members and business leaders an opportunity to meet and hear from the three superintendent finalists.

The board hopes to make a final selection following interviews being held next week.

On each of these three days, a reception for Berkeley County School District employees will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a reception for community members and business leaders will follow from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. One of the three finalists will be present at the receptions each day.

Receptions will be held in the District Office Board room at 229 East Main Street in Moncks Corner. Following these events, the Board will conduct a second extensive interview in executive session with the candidate present that day.

“The Board wants to provide an opportunity for anyone interested to meet and hear from the three candidates we will be closely considering for our next superintendent. We know we are asking a lot for folks to come out three days in a row to meet each candidate, but the Board wants to be able to spend focused, quality time with each finalist,” said Kent Murray, Board chairman. “We hope that going ahead and releasing the dates for these drop-ins before the finalists are selected will allow folks to put the dates on their calendars and plan to attend. We will appreciate support from both our employees and our community, and we encourage attendance at these receptions.”

The Board is conducting initial interviews this week with a slate of six candidates recommended by B.W.P. & Associates search consultants. The candidates are those determined to best fit the leadership profile designed from earlier meetings with the Board, employees, community members and online survey results.

When interviews and deliberations are complete, the Board will release to the public and media the names, photos, and resumes of the three finalists. When these three candidates return to the district April 29 – May 1, each finalist will spend one full day in the district touring schools and the community and interacting with Board members, employees and the public. The receptions will culminate a day of district activities for the candidate.

Stressing that the selection of the superintendent will be the most important decision the Board will make, Murray says that the Board hopes Berkeley County’s new superintendent will be named in early May.
