GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler signed a proclamation declaring May 15, “Peace Officers’ Memorial Day” in the City of Goose Creek.

City officials stated that it is “important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards and sacrifices of their law enforcement officers, and that law enforcement officers recognize their duty to serve the people of this community, by protecting them against violence and disorder.”

The Goose Creek Police Department unceasingly provides a vital public service.

The mayor has directed all flags on City buildings be flown at half staff on May 15th, in recognition of Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and in memory of those law enforcement officers, who through their courageous deeds, have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their community or have become disabled in their performance of duty, and to honor those law enforcement officers presently serving the community.
