GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–They show up early, they leave late … and they work hard.  Their jobs may be different, their talents may vary, but together they make Goose Creek tick.

And on Tuesday night, a grateful City said thanks.

Every seat was filled at the Aug. 11 Goose City Council meeting as the 2015 Employees and Volunteers of the Year were honored.

As families, friends and co-workers looked on, 11 honorees were introduced to applause by Goose Creek Mayor Michael Heitzler, who called the annual awards presentation “my favorite council meeting of the year.”

Goose Creek Police Department patrolman PFC Dariusz Ambroziak was named the 2015 City of Goose Creek Employee of the Year.

According to GCPD Chief Harvey Becker, Ambroziak “makes it a priority to provide high quality professional service to each citizen he has contact with day in and day out. Even when he is not asked he often assists with calls for service, and he has received many compliments for his attitude and willingness to lend a helping hand.”

Constable Donald Matthews has volunteered as a bailiff in the Goose Creek Municipal Court since 2009. Chief Becker joined Goose Creek Finance Director Ron Faretra in nominating Matthews for the City’s Volunteer of the Year honor.

Matthews has volunteered over 1,000 hours in the last year alone. “Constable Matthews not only assists with our day court bench trials, but also works 80 percent of the evening jury trials,” Becker said. “He volunteers from his heart, motivated by his zest to serve and his love of people.”

Architectural Review Board member Doug Quinn was named the City’s Board Member of the Year, in recognition of his years of service.

The 2015 Employees of the Year are:

  • Cheryle Talbert, Administration Department

Talbert works in the municipal court. “No matter what is asked of Cheryle, she always accepts the task,” said Faretra, who praised Talbert for her “outgoing personality, professionalism, dedication, devotion and pride in her work.”

  • Daniel Gerrald, Administration Department

Gerrald, a member of the City’s Information Technology division, “consistently completes any assigned task with speed, efficiency, and with a great customer service attitude,” IT Director Ryan Byrd said. Byrd called Gerrald “an exemplary employee” who has helped transform that department.

  • Kyle Brady, Police Department (Civilian)

Chief Becker calls Brady “a model employee who had an exceptional year … Kyle does his work, helps others with theirs, treats our citizens exceptionally, and gets along with everyone.”

  • Engineer/EMT Josh Rohrbach, Fire Department

Rohrbach “can always be counted on to complete detail-oriented tasks,” Goose Creek Fire Chief Steve Chapman said. “He has become a leader … by earning the respect of his subordinates and peers alike.”

  • Angela Martin, Recreation Department

Martin “is hard working, diligent, organized and enthusiastic,” Recreation Director Gary Stuber said. Since arriving in 2008 as Recreation Specialist, Martin “worked very hard to learn all aspects of recreation while helping all coordinators within the department,” and she is now the Athletic Coordinator.

  • Roberta (Bobbie) Wareham, Recreation Department (part-time/seasonal)

Stuber calls Wareham “an asset to this department not only for her ability to coordinate all of the concession stands, but because she enthusiastically supports all of our programs, from sporting events to festivals. Bobbie is always happy to lend a hand.”

  • Karson Robinson, Golf Department

“Karson spends more time on property than any other employee,” City Golf Director Troy Sanders said. “He truly loves the game of golf. He maintains the same smile on his face if he is weed-eating a ditch on a hot summer day, or playing golf with his friends.”

  • Kevin Siko, Golf Department (part-time/seasonal)

Siko is “enthusiastic every time he comes to work and his positive attitude is contagious,” Sanders said. “You would never know that Kevin is having a bad day because he is always smiling. He is loved by the membership … (and) is a valuable asset to Crowfield.”

The Employees of the Year were chosen by their respective department heads, and the City Employee of the Year was selected by City Council.
