JAMESTOWN, S.C.–Homeowners are warning drivers to avoid coming through the Jamestown/Shulerville area if possible.

Several inches of water have made the highways dangerous to drive on.

“Not safe out today. People, please stay home unless you have to go out,” stated Lisa Cales-Mills.

While driving, Cales-Mills spotted a stranded car overtaken by heavy flood waters on the side of the road.

Several inches of water on French Santee Road and Simmons Hill Road is making it nearly impassable for drivers, she added (See video above)

Drivers are urged to avoid Highway 41 if at all possible. It is currently closed to traffic.  The photo of the black car was taken along Highway 41. It is emerged in about a foot of water.

Blair Jones, a homeowner in Jamestown, says the water continues to rise in the area, blocking many people inside their homes.

“It’s awful! Heavy rain, flooding, can’t leave the house because of the road being so deep,” he said.

As of 12:30 p.m., the county has moved to OPCON 1 with shelters established at Berkeley Middle School and Westview Middle School.

OPCON 1 means a disaster or emergency situation is in effect and poses a significant threat to Berkeley County.
