MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – According to Santee Cooper Spokesperson Mollie Gore, recent heavy rains have caused increased inflows to the Santee Cooper Lakes system, resulting in spilling operations on Lake Marion.

Gore says Santee Cooper began spilling today through six primary spillway gates at the Santee Dam. The controlled spill is projected to reach 30,000 cubic feet (or 225,000 gallons) of water per second into the Santee River.

Spilling, which Gore says is a normal part of Santee Cooper’s hydroelectric operations in periods of increased flows into the lakes, is expected to continue until further notice.
