‘Celebrate The Season’ Returns to Berkeley County

celebratetheseason1BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. — Celebrate The Season returns for its fifth year to once again bring families and communities together this holiday season.

Thousands of enchanting lights, weekend holiday and crafts fairs, and face time with Santa Claus are just some of the delights awaiting visitors beginning Friday, Nov. 27.

Presented by Berkeley Electric Cooperative and organized by Santee Cooper and Old Santee Canal Park, Celebrate The Season remains a community gift that spreads good cheer throughout the year.

Continuing in its tradition of giving, all proceeds will again be donated to charities serving Berkeley County. Since 2011, Celebrate The Season has donated more than $409,000 to local organizations like Coastal Community Foundation’s Giving Back to Berkeley Fund and the Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center.

Celebrate The Season features a nightly Holiday Lights Driving Tour with spectacular light displays along a picturesque route that begins at Santee Cooper’s headquarters and winds through the adjacent Old Santee Canal Park in Moncks Corner.

celebratetheseason2The month-long event is powered with 100 percent Green Power from Santee Cooper and exclusively uses energy-efficient LEDs. Admission is $5 per vehicle, and vehicles can make repeat loops through the display route on the night of admission.

As part of Celebrate The Season, Old Santee Canal Park hosts a Holiday Fair every Friday through Sunday from Nov. 27 to Dec. 20, offering families and friends a place to gather for spirited fellowship. Children can enjoy free visits with Santa Claus, snow, live entertainment, marshmallow roasting, carousel rides, crafts and other fun attractions.

The Stony Landing House will look like a postcard to the past with vintage-inspired decorations, and crafters will be on hand to help you pick out special gifts. Entry to the Holiday Fair is included with your $5 admission to the Holiday Lights Driving Tour. Some activities at the Holiday Fair may incur additional costs.

Celebrate The Season is open daily except for Dec. 24 and Dec. 25, and it winds down on Wednesday, Dec. 30. Hours are 6-9:30 p.m., seven days a week.

Also returning this year is the charitable Tinsel Trot 2-mile Fun Run & Walk, which takes place from 5:30-8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, and gives participants a “sneaker preview” of the colorful light displays. Registration information can be found at www.celebratetheseason.org/tinseltrot.
