BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – On Friday, Solicitor Scarlett A. Wilson announced that a Berkeley County jury convicted John Darrieux for three counts of armed robbery, three counts of kidnapping, burglary in the first degree and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Culbertson sentenced Darrieux to 30 years for each of those charges and ran those sentences concurrently.

On October 21, 2014, authorities say Darrieux and three others broke down the front door of a home in a residential area of Moncks Corner. Wilson says the victims were each asleep at the time. Three of the intruders were wearing Halloween masks, and all four of them were armed with handguns.

The gunmen held the three victims at gunpoint for over an hour while they ransacked the home collecting prescription medications, electronics, power tools, and other property. The intruders then forced the victims into a bathroom and threatened their lives before leaving the residence.

All four intruders were apprehended by the Berkeley County Sherriff’s Office later that day after a 911 call for suspicious activity in a neighborhood in Summerville. After Darrieux’s arrest, several of the victim’s belongings were found at a co-defendant’s residence.

Darrieux has a prior conviction for Burglary from 2011. The codefendant’s cases are still pending.

Assistant Solicitors E. Mason West and Daniel B. Poulos prosecuted the case on behalf of the 9th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
