HUGER, S.C.–According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home invasion robbery and shooting on Martha Lane in Huger early Thursday morning.

According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran, around 2:30 a.m., a woman and man returned home to 135 Martha Lane in Huger.

When they arrived, five individuals approached them and forced them inside of the residence where an altercation took place, Cochran stated.

At some point, the male who lived at the residence, was shot. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has since identified him as 27-year-old Kadeem Johnson. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday at MUSC.

Deputies say that the five subjects then fled the scene in two vehicles that they stole from the victim.

After they left the female was able to call 911 and request assistance.

The two vehicles were a white 2004 Ford Crown Victoria and grey 2007 Ford Crown Victoria. The white one was recovered after a deputy stopped it on Highway 402 near Copperhead Road – approximately 5 miles from the incident location.

The occupants of the vehicle fled into woods and are still being sought, deputies stated.  The grey one has an SC registration of LQT-869 and it has not been located.

The female victim was transported to the MUSC and is being treated for unspecified injuries.

Deputies are still actively looking for the suspects.

More information will follow as it becomes available.
