BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office say they were called to the Cypress Gardens boat landing after their K-9 unit found a man’s body in some nearby woods.
According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, foul play is not suspected.
Authorities say the man appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The coroner has not released the man’s identity.
Several nearby schools were placed on lockdown for about an hour due to a “potential threat in the area,” according to a spokesperson with the Berkeley County School District.
It is not known, however, if the two incidents were related.
