BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis,  Berkeley County School District Superintendent Dr. Blackburn and Cane Bay High School Principal Dr. Westberry signed the charter for the new Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Academy at Cane Bay High School.

Sheriff Lewis stated, “This is an exceptional opportunity for the Sheriff’s Office to not only partner with the School District but to build relationships with our youth and help prepare them for their future.”

The law enforcement academy has approximately 100 students already enrolled in it.

This program will train and develop program students to be prepared for a career in law enforcement.

Students will follow the South Carolina Department of Education Law Enforcement Curriculum and will benefit from many hands-on experiences and training. Tim Wright, a 10-year veteran police officer, serves as the teacher for the course.
