JAMESTOWN, S.C. – A Jamestown police chief has come under fire for comments he recently made to a woman on Facebook. On Thursday, the National Action Network called for Jay High’s resignation at a press conference.

Earlier this week, Chief High got into a dispute with a woman on Facebook who goes by the name Lolo Velasquez. Velasquez, whose real name is Lainey Sanders, took screen grabs of the comments she considered to be racist and shared them publically.

According to Live 5 News, Sanders had accepted High’s friend request when he then joined a conversation on a mutual friend’s Facebook page where she and a friend were arguing over a guy.

According to one of the screen grabs High wrote, “What’s that saying? Once you go black, you’re a single mom?”

Sanders responded with the word “woooooow” and a series of middle finger icons. She realized he was a cop soon after.

Meanwhile, High has stated that his comments have been taken out of context.

“I made a joking comment, just a simple stereotypical comment that a girl felt offended by, started attacking me back,” High stated.

He also told several local media outlets that he wishes he could take his comments back. However, he thinks he should be able to post whatever he wants, whenever he’s not on the clock.

Not everyone, though, agrees.

“You are an officer 24-hours. “You don’t stop what you’re doing. You’re here to protect and serve us, not pull us down and make us feel bad about ourselves,” Sanders  told ABC News 4.

“How can the citizens of Jamestown feel comfortable when they’re pulled over by a cop that can make comments like that?” said Willie Felder, a NAN member.

No official action has taken place against the Jamestown chief as of Friday morning.
