Orange Alligator In Hanahan Becomes Viral Sensation

Via Laura Carson

HANAHAN, S.C.–The Palmetto State is home to many alligators, but only one has recently managed to turn heads and become an overnight viral sensation.

Say “hello” to the gator playfully dubbed “Trumpagator” or “Cheese Puff.” The orange-colored gator was spotted a few days ago on the banks of a retention pond at the Tanner Plantation neighborhood in Hanahan.

“He must use the same place Donald Trump does for his spray tan,” one commenter said.

From USA Today to Fox News, this gator has received media coverage from all over the world.

As you can see, this gator isn’t your typical reptile. Its skin resembles the color of a sweet-potato or Dorito.  Oddly enough, no one is sure why, but they’ve had plenty to say about it.

“Must be a Clemson fan. He would make for some real pretty boots, though,” posted one person.

“Man, Clemson wins the National Championship and even the alligator is on the bandwagon! Sorry, Florida fans,” stated another commentator.

DNR Alligator Program Coordinator Jay Butfiloski told Live 5 News that the orange color may be a result of where the reptile has been living during the winter months.

“[It] might be iron oxide (rust) that has discolored it,” he said. “It may be using a rusty steel culvert pipe.”

The alligator is estimated to be about five feet long.

According to some residents, the gator has lived in the area for more than 10 years.
