Deputies: Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Stabbing Girlfriend

VIA BERKELEY COUNTY SHERIFF”S OFFICE

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Goose Creek man is behind bars after Berkeley County deputies say he stabbed his girlfriend in the neck and chest following an argument Tuesday in the couple’s vehicle.

Deputies say the suspect, JD Gray II, was driving his truck with the victim inside of it as they returned to his home from Ryan’s Steakhouse in Summerville.

According to the incident report, Gray became upset when the victim, who he’d been dating since January, stated that she needed to get dressed for work.

Authorities say Gray then pulled the truck to the side of the road near 135 Liberty Hall Road and, according to the victim, he began to choke her.

As the victim attempted to exit the vehicle, Gray reportedly opened a knife and ran around to her side of the truck. The victim stated that he stabbed her twice in the chest and neck area causing serious injuries. Officers say the victim was able to escape and was transported to Trident Hospital in North Charleston where she was admitted for treatment to her wounds. Her status is unknown at this time.

Deputies say they obtained a warrant for 37-year-old JD Gray II  of 1004 Redbank Road for Attempted Murder.

Deputies stated that Gray fled the area but was later apprehended by members of the US Marshal Task Force at a hotel near Laurens, SC.

Gray was returned to Berkeley County and booked into the Hill Finklea Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
