BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Shameka Washington, former principal at Sedgefield Middle, has been named the new principal of Goose Creek High and Rebecca Davis, former assistant principal at Sedgefield Middle, has been named Interim Principal at Sedgefield Middle. Both schools are located in Goose Creek, South Carolina. Washington and Davis will begin their new assignments on July 1 to prepare for the upcoming school year.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to return to Goose Creek High and continue serving the students and families I love,” said Principal Washington. “I look forward to acquainting myself with the students who did not attend Sedgefield Middle and re-acquainting myself with my former middle school students. I also am eagerly anticipating working alongside the talented and diverse staff at Goose Creek and officially re-joining the Gator family.”
Washington has invested 14 years in public education, beginning her career at Bowman Middle High in Orangeburg County in 2003. In 2004, Washington joined Berkeley County as a teacher at Cross High and, in 2006, served as an assistant principal at Westview Middle. Washington also served the district as an assistant principal at Goose Creek High and Sedgefield Middle Schools before being named Principal of Sedgefield Middle in 2012.
“Serving under the strong leadership of Principal Washington these past five years at Sedgefield has helped to prepare me to lead our school during this time of transition,” said Sedgefield Middle Interim Principal Rebecca Davis. “I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the community I live and work in, and I am excited to continue working with our staff to support our students and reach our goals for success.”
Davis joined the Berkeley County School District as a middle school English Language Arts teacher in 2001, investing the past 16 years in public education. During the 2005-2006 school year, Davis worked with the Cainhoy Elementary/Middle School staff as a district instructional facilitator and most recently served as an assistant principal at Sedgefield Middle School since 2012.
