Berkeley County Water Rate Increase Effective August 15th

Berkeley County Water and Sanitation

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Water and Sanitation (BCWS) customers will see a 15% water rate increase starting August 15, 2017. With the increase, the average customer using 3,000 gallons will see an increase of $1.62 on their monthly bill.

This is the first water rate increase BCWS customers have seen since 2008. Sewer rates will not be impacted.

BCWS customers will also see a late fee, for past due bills, increase to $10.

Finally, all new accounts on rental properties, created on or after August 15, 2017, will be charged a one-time $100 refundable deposit.

These changes follow Berkeley County Council’s approval of the fiscal year 2017-2018 budget on June 26, 2017.

“BCWS strives to keep rates low and maintain a high-level of customer service,” said Berkeley County Water and Sanitation Executive Director Douglas Smits. “We understand no one likes rate increases, but it’s a necessary move to keep up with the maintenance and improvements to our system in order to continue our high level of service into the future.”

Anyone with questions should call BCWS customer service at (843) 572-4400.
