MONCKS CORNER, SC- Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler announced Wednesday that non-essential/non-emergency County department offices will be closed August 21 for the solar eclipse.

“The congestion and crowd expected for this historic event may create safety and security risks in Berkeley County,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler. “This decision is made in the best interest of both County employees and citizens as thousands are expected to visit the Tri-County region that day. The safety of our employees and citizens is paramount.”

Much of Berkeley County is in the path of totality, where people can see the moon completely cover the sun, temporarily blocking sunlight.

This decision will not impact Berkeley County emergency services.
