Berkeley County Council Issues “State of Emergency”

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County council issued a State of Emergency at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 7 as preparations continue for Hurricane Irma. Council approved this at a special called meeting Thursday afternoon.

Additionally, the decision was made that all Berkeley County Government offices, including courthouses, will be closed, effective tomorrow, September 7.

This closure will continue through Monday, September 11, 2017.

The County council meeting for Monday Night, September 11 is also canceled.

Further information will be delivered Monday afternoon about any continued closings. The Berkeley County landfill convenience centers will operate normal business hours tomorrow, and will close Saturday at 1 p.m.

Berkeley County will open a citizens’ information line tomorrow, September 8 at 7 a.m. By calling this number, residents will be able to get updated information from the County’s Emergency Preparedness Department. Additionally, they can report issues that the county should be aware of, including impassable roads and downed trees.
