Goose Creek Police: 79-Year-Old-Woman Shot, Recovering From Injuries

GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–An elderly woman is recovery from injuries following a Thursday shooting, according to the Goose Creek Police Department.

GCPD officers were recently dispatched to a residence on Pecan Grove Ave. in reference to a shooting.

Officers discovered that 79-year-old Joan Dixon had been shot in the right shoulder.

The investigation determined that a person known to Dixon’s grandson was in a group in front of the residence which is where the shot originated.

The acquaintance was identified as Christopher Burnell.

Police say it is unknown at this time if Burnell fired the shot.  Dixon’s grandson, Xavier Dixon, informed officers he returned fire at the suspect’s vehicle, described as possibly a Toyota Camry (white in color).

Dixon remains hospitalized due to her injury, police.  Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
