BCSO: Traffic Stop Leads to Stolen Guns, Drug Bust

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 16, 2017, deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle driving on the wrong side of Queenie Road. The vehicle tried to avoid being stopped by turning off the road but became stuck in a field near 116 Gloria Lane. Upon getting stuck, 4 subjects bailed from the vehicle to flee.

Deputies chased one of the occupants along the wood line until they caught up with him. He was found to be in possession of a stolen Beretta 9mm that was loaded as well as two, one gram bags of a green, plant-like substance that field tested presumptive to be marijuana and one, one gram baggie of a white, powdery substance that field tested presumptive to be cocaine.

Upon securing the subject, the deputies looked into the vehicle from which the subjects had fled from.

Inside of the vehicle was a loaded Savage Axis .22-250 rifle with a Bushnell scope, a loaded Glock .40 caliber pistol, an additional 22 round magazine for the Glock, a packet of approx. 1/3 of a gram of a pink crystalline substance that field tested presumptive to be methamphetamines.

The Glock pistol was confirmed to being stolen from a vehicle on 01/11/2017 from the Sangaree area of Berkeley County. THERE WAS NO FORCED ENTRY ON THE THEFT. The Beretta was determined to have been stolen from the Town of Moncks Corner.

The subject, Qwontavious Stevenson (26 of Leisure Lane in Summerville) was placed under arrest and transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center to await a bond hearing. Stevenson, a convicted felon who was on parole at the time of the incident, was charged with evading arrest, simple possession of marijuana, Assault & Battery, 3rd degree, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of methamphetamines less than one gram, possession of cocaine, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession and of a firearm by a convicted felon.

He was granted a $62,790 bond – $2,790 of the bond was a personal recognizance bond, the remaining $60,000 is a surety bond. SC Probation & Parole was notified and he was given a $65,000 surety bond for the violation of probation. He remains in the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
