Deputies: High-Tech Doorbell Leads to Shooting Arrest

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Shortly before 5 a.m. on Monday, July 9th deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots being fired into an occupied apartment at 100 Swift Blvd. in the Goose Creek area of Berkeley County. At the time of the incident, a male and female were asleep inside of an apartment.

The investigation showed that the female occupant of the target apartment had been involved in a relationship with Markel Rasheed Bailey (29 of Linden Lane in Goose Creek) and that Bailey had called the victim’s phone 19 times between 4:04am and 4:25am. At approximately 4:55am multiple gunshots were fired into the bedroom from outside. Deputies recovered multiple shell casings outside of the apartment.

When deputies responded to Bailey’s home, not far from the Swift Blvd. scene, the hood of Bailey’s black Dodge Ram truck was warm to the touch.

Detectives investigating the scene found that Bailey’s home had a video/audio doorbell out front. Once a search warrant was obtained, a review of this device’s video showed that before the shooting, Bailey is seen going into the attic and then to his truck. He then returns to the attic again and then leaves his home in the black Dodge Ram. After returning, Bailey can be seen going back into the attic with what appears to be a handgun and mumbling ‘you’re a dead girl’ to himself.

Bailey was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder X2 and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime. He was transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center.
