Motorcyclist Killed During Hwy. 402 Hit-and-Run, SCHP Asking Public for Tips

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The South Carolina Highway Patrol is actively seeking information regarding a deadly hit-and-run that claimed the life of a motorcyclist this week.

On Tuesday at 11:25 p.m., Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury stated that Alan Lane Smith Jr., 31, of Cordesville was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle.

He was traveling on Highway 402 near Moncks Corner.

Smith was pronounced dead on the scene by Coroner Salisbury.  The accident is currently under investigation by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Smith was wearing a helmet and his death has been ruled accidental, Salisbury stated.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.

According to SCHP, the vehicle involved is believed to be a 2000-2004 Hyundai Elantra. The color of the vehicle is possibly blue. The vehicle should have damage to the right rear tail light and the rear bumper cover is missing, troopers stated.
