BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District (BCSD) leaders recently announced that Aidra Shaw will join Westview Primary as their new principal. Shaw will begin her new assignment immediately to prepare for the fast approaching school year.

“We are excited for Aidra Shaw and are confident that the Westview community will be very pleased with her leadership,” BCSD Superintendent Dr. Eddie Ingram. “Westview stakeholders expressed to us that they wanted a passionate, enthusiastic advocate who leads from the heart and fosters communication and collaboration. Shaw’s excitement for children and education is evident when she enters a room, and she is committed to ensuring that each child under her care looks forward to coming to school to learn each day. Her sense of humor and positive approach to life will serve her well at Westview Primary.”

Shaw has served the tri-county area as an educator in various roles for the past 22 years, beginning her career as a Reading/Language Arts elementary teacher in Charleston County in 1996. She joined BCSD as a fifth grade math, science and social studies teacher in 2007 and served as the assistant principal at Daniel Island School from 2014-2016. For the past two years, Shaw has led the Cainhoy Elementary Tigers and has worked hard to develop their STEAM initiative.

Leaving Cainhoy, Shaw says, is very bittersweet for both her and her family.

“The Cainhoy community is very close to my heart as my husband attended the wonderful elementary school I have been honored to lead the past two years,” Shaw said. “As hard as it will be to say goodbye, I am committed to being a lifelong learner and servant leader so I am excited about the new opportunity I have to work with the students, families and staff at Westview Primary. Cainhoy will forever be my family, and I will be watching closely and excitedly as they continue to achieve greatness.”

BCSD has named Alan Wilson as the interim principal of Cainhoy Elementary. A former BCSD principal with over thirty years of experience as an educator, Wilson has worked at both the elementary and middle school level. Wilson also served as a substitute administrator under Ms. Shaw last year and is familiar with the Cainhoy community, children and staff.

BCSD will host a stakeholder meeting at Cainhoy Elementary on Thursday, July 26 at 6 p.m. The BCSD administrative team will be seeking input from the school community regarding the selection of a new principal.
