BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–On early Saturday morning, authorities say  a deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office saw a drug transaction take place in front of 362 Rutt Lane in Goose Greek.

Upon approaching the subjects a foot pursuit was initiated. The subject was located by a shed behind 362 Rutt Lane. The shed smelled of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was in plain view inside the shed.

The BCSO Narcotics Unit assisted with obtaining a search warrant for the shed. While waiting for the search warrant, multiple family members and friends of the subject who fled began to surround the deputies and attempt to intimidate them.

Several lots away, rapid gunfire was heard at the same time. The homeowner came out and began to question the actions of the deputies. At this same time, an unknown subject threw a Molotov Cocktail was thrown at the shed whereupon the shed began to burn.

While this was happening, the homeowner began to be very aggressive towards the deputies. He was taken into custody after he refused to comply with directions and continued to attempt to disrupt the enforcement actions. The fire was extinguished by the deputies on scene.

Once the search warrant arrived and was served, deputies seized 6 pounds of marijuana, 119 grams of cocaine, 14 grams of crack cocaine, miscellaneous types of drug paraphernalia, 4 guns – 1 of which was stolen. A total of 4 people were arrested for disorderly conduct and 1 for resisting law enforcement during the execution of a search warrant. Additional charges are pending upon the completion of the investigation.

Sheriff Lewis he is glad to see that deputies are having an impact on Rutt Lane. “Rutt Lane has been a problem location for a long time and it is a shame that the actions of a few take away the peace and tranquility of a neighborhood for many. I hope that those who choose to be on the wrong side of the law think twice before they continue their dealings here in Berkeley County.”
