BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Moncks Corner Lions Club, along with Berkeley High School (BHS) leadership, will host Berkeley County’s first-of-its-kind preseason football jamboree on Thursday, August 9 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Seven teams will showcase their talent in two match-ups each, including BCSD teams from Berkeley, Cane Bay, Cross, Goose Creek and Stratford. Walterboro’s Colleton County High and Wade Hampton High of Hampton will join them.

BHS Principal Steven Steele is anxiously looking forward to the event and sees it as a win for the whole community.

“I am excited to host this jamboree and appreciate all of the Lions Club’s planning and hard work to bring an event of this kind to Berkeley County,” said Steele. “The gate proceeds will be reinvested into our local communities and into each participating teams’ program so we are teaching our kids the importance of giving back. This is also the first opportunity for fans to see their teams this season, and I am confident that they will not be disappointed.”

The Moncks Corner Lions Club, a part of Lions Club International, is a true champion for their community, completing over 2200 vision screens for BCSD students in four weeks last school year with a goal to screen twice as many students next year. The Club also helps support worthy local organizations such as the Callen-Lacey Center for Children, an emergency children’s shelter. Service is natural for the Lions Club members but they say this event would not be possible without the in-kind support they have received from sponsors and local law enforcement.

Moncks Corner Lions Club Jamboree Chairman Lane Wofford said, “It was important to us to offer an event that would be exciting and affordable for local fans. This football jamboree will help us achieve our goal of giving back to our community and local schools, as well as highlighting the talents of our student athletes. I cannot say thank you enough to our local sponsors: Moncks Corner Piggly Wiggly; Publix at Cane Bay; IGA of St. Stephen; Food Lion of Moncks Corner; Chick-fil-a of Moncks Corner; Moncks Corner Police Department and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. I truly appreciate the overwhelming support we have received from our sponsors, BHS and the school district to make this jamboree a reality for Berkeley County.”
