BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office is taking another closer look into a decade-old case involving a young pregnant mother and her 10-month old daughter.

Previous investigators ruled that “no foul” play was involved in the case. Today, law enforcement officials now have reason to believe otherwise.

“We have uncovered information that initially it was believed Kadie was suicidal, I can tell you that is not the case,” Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis said. “We’re looking at everything, we are all open-minded about this case and where it takes us, still some work to do.”

During a press conference Thursday morning, Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis along with representatives with the South Carolina Highway and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced the formation of a multijurisdictional task force.

On January 17, 2008, the bodies of Kadie and River Major were located near railroad tracks off of Oakley Road in Berkeley County.

Authorities say the Majors were killed when a locomotive struck and killed them. Kadie, who was just 26-years-old, happened to also be four-months pregnant at the time. Her 10-month-old daughter’s body was found in a creek adjacent to Oakley Road. Authorities believe she landed there after she was hit by the train and drowned.

Following their deaths, an Oakley Road resident reported Major’s white Chevrolet pickup truck in his driveway.

The newly formed Major Family Task Force is seeking any information regarding a 2006 white Chevy Colorado and a 2006 white Chevy single cab C1500 as well as anyone who had contact with Kadie and River Major in the week prior to their deaths.

If you have any information on this case, you are asked to contact the Task Force Hotline at (843) 719-7700. You can remain anonymous.
