BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Home Telecom recently announced that it’s once again boosted the internet speed for Community Connect customers to 100 Mbps. By combining the Community Connect Program with the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), qualified families can receive up to $30 in monthly credit, the company said. This means their bill will only be $9.95 per month with the new higher speed.

Home Telecom said it developed the Community Connect program to ensure low-income households had access to an affordable internet connection. The ACP is in line with that goal and makes a perfect pairing to help keep our community connected.

The service includes 100 Mbps download speeds, a modem, self-installed in-home Wi-Fi, 8 email addresses, Trend Micro Security, and more. Families are not charged modem fees or restricted with data caps. There are no contracts and customers can cancel anytime without penalty.

The 100 Mbps service is available to over 90 percent of Home Telecom’s 3-county service area in Charleston, Berkeley and Dorchester counties.

While the ACP deeply discounts the already reduced Community Connect rate for internet, it’s important to note that higher speedHome Telecom internet plans are also eligible for the $30 ACP discount if the customer qualifies for the program.

Home Telecom realized more than a decade ago that there was a growing and evolving need among school-aged children to access the internet for a variety of school-related activities. Even simple things like research for projects, extracurricular help online through tutoring services, and the ability to ask teachers and classmates questions to get a little extra help with homework.

“The Community Connect program is an important part of our continued mission to bring reliable internet and Wi-Fi services to families with school-aged children. We want to ensure they have high speed internet service to further their education and complete their schoolwork at home,” said Home Telecom President and CEO William Helmly. “Equally as important is ensuring that all residents have reliable, affordable internet for any needs they may have like virtual telehealth visits and telework opportunities.”

This will be the second time in the past 18 months that Home Telecom has announced they are boosting the internet speeds for families enrolled in the Community Connect program. They increased it from 10 Mbps to 25 Mbps in February 2021.
