Win Prizes During BCLS’s 2023 Summer Reading Program

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) 2023 Summer Reading Program invites preschool-age children to adults to participate in summer reading and win prizes!  This year’s theme for Summer Reading is All Together Now.  Online pre-registration begins May 22, 2023. 

The program will begin on June 1 and end on July 31.  Visit Summer Reading for details and location of children, teens and adults game boards to track reading progress towards earning prizes!   eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, and children’s Audio-Enabled books (VOX and Wonderbooks) are also welcomed and encouraged for reading.  Pre-Registration for Summer Reading Opens on May 22, with programs for early literacy, children, teens, and adults from June 1 – July 31.   

BCLS Summer Reading 2023:  All Together Now offers an incredible lineup of performances featuring Tim Sonefelt’s “The Friendship Factory.”  Mr. Tim and Larry the Duck will entertain young readers with magic, puppetry, age-appropriate comedy, and audience participation at seven branches during June!  Performance is approximately 45 minutes.   

BCLS’ second feature includes Miss September and Friends “Let’s Get Loopy.”  Miss September will capture young minds using magic, music, dancing, and fun with Love-A-Bull and other guest puppets at six branches during July!  Performance is approximately 50 minutes.  A ticket is required for each show performance and will be available one week before the performance date.  Both “The Moncks Corner Library Friendship Factory” and “Let’s Get Loopy” shows will not require tickets and will be held in the Assembly Room at Berkeley County Administration Building, located at 1003 Highway 52, Moncks Corner.

“My amazing, fun, one-of-a-kind, and my all-time favorite Let’s Get Loopy’ show will change lives and make a difference in so many ways,” said September Cardiff, performer for Let’s Get Loopy

Cardiff is an author, children’s performer, magician, ventriloquist, and motivational speaker who has been performing for over 20 years at schools and libraries in Kentucky, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.  She is also a skilled educator and entertainer and is married and has four boys and two granddaughters.  Cardiff loves to motivate and entertain people, especially children. 

 The Summer Reading Program also includes Give Our Books New Looks Art Contest for third-fifth grade students to design a cover or draw a scene from a favorite book at Rules and Template for a prize drawing!  Participants are encouraged to use markers, colored pencils, crayons, felt pens, and paint and complete all fields on template.  Computer-designed artwork is not encouraged.  Deadline to submit completed artwork to a BCLS location or online at berkeleylibrarysc.libwizard.com/f/GOBNL is August 31, 2023.  One entry per person.
