Summerville Man Killed In Fatal Moncks Corner Crash ID’d

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver killed in a crash that occurred on Independence Day in Moncks Corner. Joshua Williams, 24, of Summerville died at Trident Medical Center, Chief Deputy Coroner Kelly Kraus confirmed.

The Moncks Corner Police Department, along with troopers from the State Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash on Hwy. 52 and Gaillard Road on July 4 around 6:14 p.m.

Police said a driver was traveling south on Hwy. 52, overcorrected after colliding with another vehicle causing their vehicle to roll over several times ejecting the driver from the vehicle.

The vehicle came to rest on the far side of the northbound lanes of travel. Williams was transported by EMS to Trident Medical Hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured as a result of the collision.

Investigators closed both lanes of Hwy. 52 at Gaillard Road while they completed their investigation. The southbound lane was reopened a short time later, but the northbound lane remained closed as investigators worked the fatality. The road was reopened at 7:30 p.m.

This is the fourth fatal collision investigated by the Moncks Corner Police Department in 2023.
