Fatal Dog Attack in Moncks Corner: 2 People Charged

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Two people are facing charges following a fatal dog attack that happened on Halloween in Moncks Corner.

Detectives have arrested and charged Shannan Christine McCrackin, 45, of Moncks Corner
and Kenneth Howard Swayne, 44, of Moncks Corner.

McCrackin has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of dangerous
animals unconfined on premises. Swayne has been arrested and charged with two counts of
dangerous animals unconfined on premises.

On Tuesday, Oct. 31, deputies responded to a residence on Ayers Drive in Moncks Corner, in
reference to a report of a dog attack with a person severely injured.

When deputies arrived, medical personnel were tending to the victim; however, he was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as David Eller, 65, of Moncks Corner.

According to detectives, two Pitbulls attacked Eller. The dogs were unprovoked and were not contained properly, investigators said.

“This was a vicious attack on an unsuspecting victim, and this should have never occurred.” Berkeley
County Sheriff Duane Lewis said. “If the owner of the dogs would have taken the proper responsibility for the safekeeping of the animals, the attack could have been prevented.”

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this case
