BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Fruit of the Loom will soon permanently close its 752,000-square-foot distribution center in Berkeley County.

The closure was announced through South Carolina’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN), which reports mass layoffs and closings 60 days before they occur.

“As a global company operating in a highly competitive marketplace, Fruit of the Loom, Inc., is constantly analyzing its business to ensure we remain as competitive as possible. After an extensive review of our distribution network, the decision was made to close the distribution center in Summerville, South Carolina in support of a consolidation strategy,” Fruit of the Loom spokesperson Melanie Cressman said in an email to The Berkeley Observer.
