BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that resulted in the death of a teenager.
Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell has identified the deceased teen as Tyren J. Kinloch, 17, of the Wando area.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were conducting an investigation Tuesday evening that led to a traffic stop in the Clements Ferry Road and Rivers Reach Drive area.
During the traffic stop, shots were fired. Kinloch was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The coroner said the hospital notified his office of the death shortly before 10:30 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled.
There were no deputies injured in the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
Per agency protocol, Sheriff Duane Lewis said his office requested a SLED investigation into the shooting.
