BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Cheers and signatures filled the air Thursday as Berkeley County School District officials and construction crews celebrated a major milestone in the building of Bee Tree Elementary — the “topping off” of the new school facility.

The ceremonial event marked the placement of the final steel beam at the highest point of the structure, a traditional moment of pride in the construction world. Located near the intersection of Cane Bay Blvd. and Black Tom Road in the Jedburg area, Bee Tree Elementary is set to open its doors to students in August 2026.

David Hemstrought, Director of New Construction for the district, said this event signifies the transition from the outside construction to the interior of the building.

“It’s a milestone on our schedule to get this roof on,” he said.
