1 Killed, 1 Injured in Hwy. 17A Crash in Berkeley County

The fatal crash happened on Hwy. 17A near Hootie Court, just six miles south of Moncks Corner.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – One person has died following a single-car collision on Hwy. 17A early Friday morning in Berkeley County. A passenger inside the car also suffered injuries, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Around 3:50 a.m., Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway said the driver of a 2017 Chevy sedan traveled south on Hwy. 17A near Hootie Court in the Macedonia community – which is about six miles south of Moncks Corner – when the car veered off the right side of the road and struck multiple trees.

The driver died at the scene of the crash. EMS transported the passenger to Trident Hospital. That person’s injuries are unknown at this time, Ridgeway said.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as Rashida Z. Dash, 38, of Goose Creek. The crash remains under investigation by SCHP.
