BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. – Several fire departments in eastern Berkeley County have formally consolidated with the North Berkeley Fire District in a move county leaders say is designed to strengthen public safety, improve emergency response and support long-term service delivery as a new public safety complex nears completion.
The East Berkeley Fire District, Pineville/Russellville Fire Department and Eadytown Metro Fire Department announced this week that they have officially merged with the North Berkeley Fire District. Officials said the decision will streamline administrative operations, unify emergency response resources and allow for more efficient coordination across the region.
“This consolidation will allow both districts to streamline administrative functions, unify emergency response resources, and further enhance the quality and reliability of fire protection and emergency services within the greater Berkeley area,” the East Berkeley Fire District announced Tuesday via social media.
As part of the transition, all official communications — including safety advisories, public updates and community announcements — will now be issued exclusively through the North Berkeley Fire District’s Facebook page. Residents are being encouraged to follow the page for real-time information and continued updates about the consolidation.

The consolidation comes as Berkeley County officials move forward with a major public safety investment in the northern part of the county. Leaders marked the groundbreaking last month for the new North Berkeley Public Safety Campus in Bonneau — a 16,800-square-foot facility that will house the North Berkeley Fire District along with new substations for the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Medical Services.

County officials said the campus will also function as a backup 911 communications center and include a helicopter pad and boats to assist with emergency rescues on Lake Moultrie and the Santee River. The project carries an estimated cost of $5.8 million, representing one of the county’s largest public safety infrastructure investments in recent years.
The facility is expected to be completed in May 2026.
