MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — A person was hospitalized Sunday afternoon after a reported shooting at a mosque in Moncks Corner, prompting a rapid police response from law enforcement.

According to the Moncks Corner Police Department, officers were dispatched around noon on Jan. 25 to the Muhajirun Wal Ansar Mosque at 1020 Old U.S. 52 after receiving a call from an unidentified individual who reported they had been shot. Officers arrived on scene approximately two minutes later and located a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Trident Hospital, where officials said the individual is in stable condition.

Police confirmed that a person of interest is currently in custody. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office assisted Moncks Corner police in locating the individual, authorities said.

Investigators have not released details about a possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Police emphasized that the investigation remains active.
