MONCKS CORNER, S.C. — The Moncks Corner Police Department and Moncks Corner Fire Department are urging residents to prepare for a potential winter weather event in the coming days, warning that hazardous travel conditions could develop if temperatures drop and ice forms.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, police and fire officials said they are actively monitoring weather conditions and will provide periodic updates as the situation evolves. Residents are encouraged to make preparations in advance and have a plan in place, particularly if travel becomes unsafe.
“If possible, please remain at your residence during the event, as travel conditions may become unsafe,” the department said, adding that avoiding unnecessary travel could help reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.

Emergency officials also highlighted several locations within and around Moncks Corner that have experienced travel issues during past icy weather events. These areas may be subject to restrictions or closures if conditions worsen:
- Tailrace Canal Bridge
- Highway 17A overpass near Carolina Avenue
- Highway 52 bridge near Merrimack
Authorities emphasized that bridges and overpasses are often the first roadways to ice over during freezing conditions, posing an increased risk to drivers.
