GOOSE CREEK, S.C. — The American Red Cross is helping a Berkeley County family after a midday apartment fire in Goose Creek left their home damaged and in need of support.
Disaster-trained Red Cross volunteers responded Sunday to the Hallmark at Timberlake apartments on Hallmark Drive, where a fire displaced two residents. The organization is now assisting the family with financial support for immediate necessities, including food, clothing and temporary shelter.

In addition to emergency aid, Red Cross workers are connecting the family with community resources and offering mental and spiritual care services as they begin to recover.

“As our teams work with the families impacted, our hearts go out to them and we want to provide all the support we can,” said Susan Everitt, CEO of the Red Cross of South Carolina. “This devastating event reminds us that fires can happen anywhere, at any time, and we must always be prepared for these unfortunately frequent disasters. We encourage families to practice their home fire safety plan and test their smoke alarms.”
The Red Cross says it will continue to stay in contact with local partners to determine whether additional assistance is needed in the days ahead.
The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage is unclear at this time.
