SC’s tax free holiday kicks off Friday

During the 17th Annual Sales Tax Holiday, shoppers are expected to save an estimated $2.25 million, according to the Board of Economic Advisors.

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Starting this Friday, Berkeley County shoppers can save a good bit of money at the store thanks to the annual tax free holiday.

Clothing, footwear, school supplies, computers, printers, blankets, bath towels, and pillows are only a few of the items that are exempt from sales tax during this tax free weekend.

The savings will officially start August 1st at 12:01 a.m. and end at midnight the following Sunday.

During this time, the six percent state sales and any applicable local sales tax will be exempt on select items purchased.

Some items are excluded during the tax-free holiday. This includes: jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, watches, furniture and items placed on layaway.

For those who aren’t interested in the savings, you may want to stay away from the malls and retail stores.  You can bet they are going to be packed with people looking to save some money.
