Center for Women (C4W) recently received a $47,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program.
Each year, the C4W serves more than 1,200 women in the Lowcountry and even more across the state.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Walmart Foundation, which will help us expand a pilot program that we started this summer that helps women become economically independent,” said Amy Brennan, C4W Executive Director. “This funding will support two areas of focus for us – our new Ready for Work program where we introduce soft and mid-level skills to women through partnerships at the One80 Place and through the Georgetown County Housing Authority, and to increase our scope in offering Entrepreneurial Readiness workshops to women across the state who are trying to start their own businesses.”
The Center for Women (C4W) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that serves as an educational resource and nonpartisan advocate for improving South Carolina women’s economic growth and personal development.
“The relationship we are building with Walmart is of particular benefit for us and our clients as it will help create career pathways that lead to opportunities for women and their children,” Brennan continued. “The economic empowerment of women is a focus of our work and we are happy to have Walmart’s support in Charleston and across the state.”

In 2013, community giving in South Carolina from Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs and the Walmart Foundation totaled $29.2 million.
