MONCKS CORNER, SC โ€“Berkeley County Elections and Voter Registration Director Adam Hammons announced this morning that attorney and Berkeley County Republican Party Chairman Josh Whitley (R โ€“ Daniel Island) has been certified as the official winner of the special election for the District 2 seat on County Council.

Hammons said that Whitley was the only candidate to file for the partisan primaries and that no one filed as a write-in candidate.

Whitley is a 2001 graduate of Berkeley High School, having grown up in the Pinopolis-Moncks Corner area. He now calls Daniel Island home with his wife and baby daughter.

In 2012, he was a major opponent of the Berkeley Co. School Districtsโ€™ โ€˜Yes 4 Schoolsโ€™ campaign.ย  Last year, he presented his concerns about the campaign to SC Attorney General Alan Wilsonโ€“which resulted in an ongoing SLED investigation and the indictment of Amy Kovach, the districtโ€™s communications director.

Whitley is set to be sworn into office at 6:30 PM on Monday, February 23rd in the County Council Chambers, before the scheduled County Council meeting begins.
